A majority of the people who used to drive comes up with the problem of back pain which is a result of not sitting in a right posture and may be because of not having a seat which is designed correctly. For that, check yourself, stand before the mirror which reflects a full view of your figure and turn to your side to visualize the exact profile of you.
On seeing your profile, you have to see the shoulders, hips, knees and ankles aligned in a same line. If you find out that there is no straight line formation or it is just trying to look like straight line then the important information to you is that you might get lower back pain in the coming months or years. Yet you are not alone.
Like shock absorbers in the vehicles, we have spinal cord in our back which helps absorbing the shocks and the pressure while walking or being seated. But if the spine is given such a pressure that it bends back beyond its normal posture then there is this possibility that the spine might work against its normal routine or the whole spring effect might disappear soon.
To give an example, some people have the habit of bending their upper portion or the chest a little forward which will result in pain in their neck. This is because once the alignment is not in a line, then automatically your face will bend downwards a little and to have a clear vision you have to lift the nose slightly up which gives pressure to the back. So what happens in order to maintain the balance the hip will go backwards, the knee forward resulting in a profile which looks like the letter “S”.
in places like America where almost all the people own a car seems to be facing problems with their back. It is reported that 25% of the people are suffering from back pain and around 12% and 9% seems to be reporting knee pain and headache. The risk of severe back injuries and chronic pain is more for the people who used to drive around the age group between 30 and 49. One main fact will be the ageing though they are active.
It is always advisable to use a seat which designed in such a way to prevent the back injuries and bad posture like an
ergonomic seat as most of the time we used to sit somewhere.
Most seats in the cars, planes and long distance buses have seats which are designed with a reverse spring effect. Sometimes you have to lean your upper portion of the body backwards where the design of the seats are very poor or positioned in a wrong way. It is always best to keep your back in a perpendicular line and sit straight if you do not have a back support. So seats designed upright will be a right one though it has some discomfort initially.
When you watch tall people sitting, you might have noticed that their knee is above their hip and this is not a right posture to sit. The knee should be always below the hip and so try to sit with your knees below the thighs. So in the cars they can raise the height of the seats to sit correctly or put some cushion between the seat and the thigh.
Thus the problem of the back pain arises mainly because of a bad sitting posture which has to be rectified. Using of ergonomic seats might be one kind of solution where it is designed in such a way that it helps to sit in a correct posture.
